Kicking off her Diamonds world tour in Buffalo New York on Friday night Rihanna wowed fans with a series of outfits designed by Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci. Labelled “urban haute couture elegance” by the designer the collection of costumes includes a floor-length black cape with ruffles and gold embroidery, thigh-high boots in black and white leather, a parka featuring a gold bullet motif, “couture goggles” and a plethora of leather bra and mini-shorts ensembles.“Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today,” Tisci said. “She is punk and talented. She offers intelligence, energy and pure beauty. She is the face of her generation.” What better way to catapult a world tour into the spotlight than wearing custom-made couture?

In a highly-anticipated fashion industry first, Harper’s BAZAAR has welcomed the famed Carine Roitfeld as global fashion director across all of it’s 26 international editions. The editor who is best known for her ten year stint at French Vogue (2001-2011) and being a street style photographer’s favourite debuts her first fashion feature in Harper’s BAZAAR 15th anniversary March issue globally. A 16-page spread entitled ‘Carine on the Collections’ sees Roitfeld offer her creative take on the spring/summer 2013 collections using looks by Chanel, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana alongside emerging names such as Christopher Kane and J.W. Anderson.
In a playful reference to how we communicate in today’s connected yet disconnected world, Lanvin Creative Director Alber Elbaz gives feedback on the brand’s new campaign via a Skype video call for their spring/summer video. The inspiration for the editorial came from Elbaz’s inability to actually be in New York City for the various shoots because of Hurricane Sandy. Lanvin continues to be a luxury fashion house with a mischievous sense of humour.
Audaciously…Brilliantly…Eternally… CHANEL and the Diamond. Love this fabulous short film that summarises the history of Gabrielle Chanel’s use of the diamonds in a modern way – simplifying jewellery settings and rendering the previous styles out of date “I want jewels that slip between the fingers like a ribbon”. For Chanel beauty was not an obligation or a convention but a way of being, an allure.
