The grand opening of the first Louis Vuitton Maison in Shanghai at Plaza 66 will be the 16th Maison worldwide. The Louis Vuitton Maison will house, leather goods, ready-to-wear for women and men, luggage, watches, jewellery and custom designed pieces. Specially commissioned artworks by Chinese and international contemporary artists will be seen throughout the Maison highlighting Louis Vuitton’s association with discovery. The new four-story flagship store was built by architect Peter Marino complete with a gilded spiral staircase and an invitation-only private floor where big spenders can get their hair done while dreaming up designs for custom bags. Guests included Louis Vuitton’s Creative Director Marc Jacobs, Alexa Chung, Latetitia Casta, Clémence Poésy in a tri-coloured lace coat dress and Poppy Delevigne in a soft pink midi dress; both pieces from the label’s Resort 2013 collection.
It’s all aboard the Louis Vuitton Express this winter, and after a breathtaking runway show in March (where the models walked out from a real locomotive as it bellowed steam) LV’s creative director Marc Jacobs asked photographer Steven Meisel to shoot ten models complete with their “porters” from the show for the fall/winter campaign. It’s a new collaboration for the house, that Marc Jacobs explains further: “We wanted to maintain the romantic journey that the collection represents – the opulence of the brocades and the distant and romantic glamour of travel. I think there is a lightness and a magic to everything that we showed this season, and they are really captured perfectly in Steven Meisel’s images.”
