Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s soulful and affecting Rodarte show was inspired by dreams of their California childhood. As Kate explained backstage, “We wanted to capture our memories of Santa Cruz: It’s a very personal collection.” It was grunge and it was gothic, Nineties and theatrical, skate culture, LA surfers, fairytale princesses and Eighties street kids.
Derek Lam described his customer as “She’s got a bohemian spirit, but in a modern, controlled way” and this was undoubtedly the collection he presented for Fall 2013. Lam brought out his inner boho in a super chic way with patchwork suede, fringing and rich coloured furs. His elegant capes in both wool and leather were classic investment pieces. The colour palette of ivory, navy, camel and burgundy worked on rich fabrics like satin, furs and leather, set a tone of modern understated luxury.
At 10 Crosby Derek Lam there was a new emphasis on texture and details. A classically tailored overcoat in glossy faux pony hair set a strong tone for the outerwear and was complemented by a selection of knitwear, dresses and shirting. The sophisticated accessories were also a stand out this season – pointy zippered flats and python boots to the knee.
